A shopkeeper has been ordered to £1,200 following an investigation into the underage sale of alcohol.

The investigation by Waltham Forest Council's Trading Standards team was carried out in October of last year.

Enforcement officers together with the police and children under the age of 18 visited a number of retail premises across the borough.

A 15 year-old walked into Eko Supermarket in High Road, Leytonstone and bought a WKD alcopop.

Following the undercover act on October 19, a prosecution was launched against shopkeeper Sinan Aydemir.

The 39 year-old appeared at Thames Magistrates Court last month and pleaded guilty to one charge of selling alcohol to a person aged under 18.

He was fined £470 and ordered to pay costs of £700 and a victim surcharge of £47.
