A service which attempts to save 200 elderly people from isolation and neglect per month will be replaced according to Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning Group.

At the end of this month the ‘Crisis Prevention’ service run by Age UK Waltham Forest will be stopped and all members of the team made redundant.

The £50k funding for the project will be moved to a different working model although the tendering process is still ongoing, says the CCG.

A spokeswoman for the NHS group said that they are investing more money into helping the vulnerable in the borough.

She said: “The CCG continues to commission services from Age UK Waltham Forest, and aspects of the case finding service will still be delivered, but in different ways.

“The additional funding will improve services and allow a further 5,000 people with complex needs to access care in a more streamlined way.

“To do this we are re-organising some services so we’re better able to meet the needs of local residents and ensure that the most vulnerable people in our community are cared for safely.

“The funding released from the Age UK Waltham Forest contract (£50k) is being re-invested in other third sector services.”

The CCG claims that it has invested a further £1m into the care of elderly people in Waltham Forest.

Previously funded by the PCT and Waltham Forest Council the project has been running in the borough for the last 12 years.

It works when a GP identifies an elderly person who has care needs and organises an assessment by the CP team.

Following a one on one assessment the right level of care is then found and provided.
