A former dementia nurse consultant is going for the chop in an attempt to raise £2.5k for the Alzheimer’s Society.

During a week of events in the borough to raise awareness about the illness Frank Brennan who worked at Whipps Cross Hospital will have his long locks hacked off in public.

Mr Brennan said that the charity is one which is very close to his heart.

He said: “I worked as a dementia consultant for three years and my favourite aunt has dementia, or as she refers to it, memory problems.

“It will be a big step for me to cut my flowing mane.

“The Alzheimer’s Society are the leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers and they ‘touch the lives of over 30,000 people every week.”

Mr Brennan will have his hair cut in public at The Mall in Walthamstow on May 24 at midday.

During the same week The Alzheimer’s Society will be raising awareness across Waltham Forest with information stands and through Whipps Cross Hospital Radio.
