A petrol station's application to sell alcohol was turned down by a council last night.
Redbridge council's licensing committee refused permission at Redbridge Town Hall in Ilford to Fuel UK Limited who own the BP station in Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green.
It was refused under the Licensing Act 2013 section 176 (2), which excludes 'premises used primarily as a garage' from selling alcohol.
Before the decision, Bridge ward Conservative councillor, Paul Canal, stated he was opposed to the move.
He said: "It pretty obvious to me that is not appropriate for petrol stations to sell alcohol.
"Drivers should not be able to pop in for petrol and buy a bottle of vodka too."
