A man is due to appear in court today charged with assaulting a police officer.

Saulius Kandratavicius is accused of attacking a female officer on duty in Melbourne Road, Leyton.

The 40-year-old, of Brisbane Road, is also charged with intending to cause harassment or distress to a woman in March this year.

He will appear at Thames Magistrates Court today.
