Story one:

A witness has described how he heard a girl screaming moments after the house she was in collapsed.

Building work was going on next door to the semi-detached, two-storey property in Abbotsford Gardens, Woodford Green, when the part of the structure above a garage collapsed at 5.30pm yesterday.

Story two: 

The accident and emergency department at King George Hospital will remain open "for the foreseeable future", Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has confirmed. 

The department at the Goodmayes hospital was due to close next year as part of a reconfiguration of services.

Story three:

A vicar said he felt “blessed” by a visit from the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Justin Welby was the guest of honour at the centenary service of St Gabriel's parish church in Aldersbrook Road, Wanstead, yesterday.

Story four: 

A team of rugby players have raised over £20,000 in honour of men killed in one of the world's worst ever plane crashes.

The 11-strong cycling team from the Eton Manor Rugby Club in Nutter Lane, Wanstead, cycled over 370 miles to mark the 40th anniversary of the disaster in 1974.

Story five: 

A derelict grade II listed pub has been left empty for three years due to a legal dispute between the building’s owner and its tenants, it has emerged.

Campaigning squatters moved into the Doctor Johnson pub in Longwood Gardens, Barkingside, ten days ago in an attempt to negotiate re-opening the building for community use.
