Chase Lane Primary School won the Football League Kids Cup at Wembley stadium on Sunday, hours before Leyton Orient were left heartbroken following their play-off defeat.

Demaray Anaydike was the hero, as the team from the school in York Road, Chingford, beat Nottingham High Junior School 1-0.

Tony Anaydike, 47, said it was emotional to see his son score the winner.

He said: It was an amazing occasion, it might never happen again for them.

“It’s a dream for a child aged 10 or 11 to play and score at Wembley.”

Coaches Tyrone Hercules and Aslam Alavi managed the team throughout the tournament, which saw the school beat local and national opposition and become the first ever school from Waltham Forest to play at Wembley.

Mr Hercules said: “The whole atmosphere and support was fantastic, the kids enjoyed it, it was emotional for me. When we won it, I was welling up.

“I will be surprised if some of them didn't go on to make money out of football.

"To say that you are the best Year 6 team in the country, it's incredible. Just to get to Wembley would be good enough, but I just had a feeling we had a good chance of winning it.”

The match was played before Leyton Orient's penalty shoot-out defeat to Rotherham United on Sunday.

Chase Lane are captained by Harvey Livings-Corbin and his father Greg, 51, expressed his delight at seeing his son lift a trophy at Wembley.

He said: "It's brilliant, there are professional footballers who haven't played at Wembley - this will last forever."

"He has kept the trophy for a bit too long - I think he would take it to bed if he could."

"I shed a couple of tears when I saw them with the trophy, I'm so proud, a magical moment, he's done really, really well."

Chase Lane were playing Nottingham High Junior School who were representing Notts County from the northern section of the tournament.
