A man has been seen re-entering his house to save his dog as fire engulfed the building.

A neighbour of a property currently on fire in Brunel Road, near Woodford Bridge, reported seeing his neighbour distressed and asking him to call the fire brigade shortly after 4.15pm.

The neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “I was watching TV when I heard a loud noise and went to the window.

“I saw the owner of the house outside and he looked quite panicked and told me to call the fire brigade.

“He then went back in and got his dog out.”

A man is currently being treated by ambulance staff for smoke inhalation.

A total of five fire engines attended the blaze as well as an ambulance an emergency response vehicle and police.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and fire officers are still trying to keep the blaze under control.
