A councillor has hit out at plans for a restaurant to extend its opening hours.

Owner Antony Mark Foster wants to extend the licence at The Manor House in High Street, Wanstead, from 11pm to 1.15am on Friday and Saturday nights.

If granted, the venue will be able to sell alcohol until 12.30am and play recorded music until 11.30pm.

Conservative Cllr Chris Cummins, speaking on behalf of the Snaresbrook ward Conservative councillors, said the extended hours would disturb residents in nearby Manor House Gardens.

He said: “There is a concern that people will leave the premises late at night and cause a real disturbance for residents of nearby flats.

“1.15am is too late and we would want to cut this back to about 11.30pm. I don’t see any reason to extend into the early hours of the morning.

“I understand there is not an intention for it to be a nightclub like Funky Mojoes in South Woodford.

“But we need to establish whether they mean background music at the meeting next week.”

Redbridge council's licensing sub-committee will decide on the application on Tuesday.

The 17th century Grade II listed building previously housed a Conservative club and the Allied Irish Bank.
