Police in Ongar have stepped up patrols after concerns that the area is being targeted by drug dealers.

Officers say they have been made aware of possible street dealing in the town in recent weeks.

Sergeant Gavin Tuck said the neighbourhood team in Ongar is currently gathering evidence.

He said: "Essex Police have been made aware of the use and possible sale of Class B drugs in the Ongar area.

"Following the issue being bought to our attention, directed patrols have been put into place by the local neighbourhood police officers.

"There have been no arrests but intelligence continues to be gained."

Sergeant Tuck has urged people who see suspicious activity in the town to come forward.

"We are working to break the chain between drug use and crime but we need the local community's help," he added.

"Not one resident in Ongar should have to witness or encounter this type of behaviour.

"Ongar’s crime level remains low and, as always, we continue to work towards making Ongar a safer place for the community."

Suspicions should be reported to 101 or the neighbourhood officers on 07779317211.
