The driver of a bus involved in a fatal accident this morning has been released from hospital.

The N38 service collided with a car in Lea Bridge Road, just outside of the Lea Valley Ice Centre in Leyton, at around 2.20am.

One man was killed and another passenger is in a critical condition.

Two men in the back of the car were also injured.

All four men are believed to be in their early to mid-20s, but further details are yet to be released.

Ambulance crews also treated around 10 passengers who were on the bus for minor injuries.

Police at the scene this morning confirmed that the driver of the bus is out of hospital after suffering “bumps and bruises”.

The road has now been re-opened to traffic and the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath is investigating.

Mateo Andres Castrillon, 18, was killed yards from the scene of the latest crash on Easter Sunday in 2012.

His motorbike was in collision with a car at the junction of Lea Bridge Road and Chatsworth Road. Anyone witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call the police non-emergency line on 101.

Transport for London has been asked to comment.
