A man who denies carrying a meat cleaver and axe in public will remain in custody until he appears in crown court for trial.
Wayne Moseley, 25, of Springfield Road, Chelmsford, is alleged to have carried the items in Ongar, as well as assaulting a police officer and driven while drunk and without insurance on March 22.
He did not enter a plea for the other offences when he appeared before magistrates in Chelmsford on Monday.
Mr Moseley is now scheduled to appear in Chelmsford Crown Court on August 11.
