Three men who admitted smashing windows in an attempt to raid a secondary school have today been jailed.

Tony Weedon, 29, of no fixed address, Joey Wilson, 18, of Cann Hall Road, Leytonstone, and Ryan Greenhow, 18, of Langthorne Road, Leytonstone have been sentenced to eight months in prison for a failed burglary attempt at Rushcroft Foundation School in Rushcroft Road, Chingford.

The men were remanded in custody to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court today after pleading guilty to burglary on April 9 at Thames Magistrates Court.

On February 19, police were called to the school at 2.20am after neighbours reported hearing an alarm sounding.

The trio hot-wired a blue Ford Focus without an owner's consent to be used as a getaway car but nothing was reported stolen.

After viewing CCTV footage, officers then tracked down Weedon, Wilson and Greenhow an hour later in nearby Gordon Avenue, Highams Park.

Wilson will serve an additional eight months in prison for breaching a suspended sentence handed to him on January 27 for dangerous driving.

Detective inspector John Randall, from Waltham Forest CID, said:

"Burglary is a Waltham Forest borough priority and I hope this successful outcome highlights the hard work of officers who fight this crime.

"School burglaries have been a particular problem and I hope that this case will deter others from committing similar crimes on the borough."
