Ambulance services were called to the A406 southbound between junction 4 of the M11 and the A12 Eastern Avenue just before 10am.
The accident involved a car and a 4X4 with two females both aged 25 receiving treatment for head and back injuries.
They have been taken to Royal London Hospital as a priority and the outside lane remains closed.
In the same hour, a second collision occured between a car and a lorry eastbound on the A406 at the approach to the Charlie Brown's Roundabout.
