Students from one of America’s biggest universities explored a Waltham Forest Housing project today.

The third year undergraduates from Texas A&M University were shown around what will be Banbury Park in Billet Road, Walthamstow.

During their visit the US students were told about how developers Circle Housing found sixteen air raid shelters from the Second World War on the site.

Bunkers were discovered while land was being cleared to make way for the £50m development.

The students have spent two weeks looking at a number of regeneration projects across London.

Banbury Park is being built on brownfield land, which previously housed a warehouse, industrial works and an electronics factory.

The concrete shelters have now been removed and building work has now started. The first properties will be ready by March 2015.

Circle Housing hopes to have built 400 homes in the borough by the same year.
