Traders and residents have paid their respects to a dedicated community activist at his funeral this afternoon.

Dave Stannard, chairman of Loughton Broadway Town Centre Partnership, lost a long battle with cancer on his 70th birthday on May 23.

Tributes described Mr Stannard’s “invaluable” contribution and “great influence” on the area.

He had been active in the community for at least 40 years, organising events, serving as a councillor and supporting campaigns.

A full procession along The Broadway took place at 2.25pm followed by a committal at Forest Park Crematorium for family and close friends.

A service at Epping Forest Community Church followed at 4pm to which public were invited.
