Firefighters in England and Wales are set to stage a 24-hour strike today.
From 9am members of the Fire Brigade Union will walk-out until 8.59am tomorrow.
Divisional Officer Julian Ashley, of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, reminded residents to be careful during tonight's opening World Cup game, especially at barbecues.
Throughout the industrial action, Essex firefighters will be responding to 999 calls.
Businesses should follow up automatic fire alarms with a phone call to ensure attendance.
The strike action is part of a national dispute between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government over planned pension reforms.
