Extra police will be drafted in as pubs in Waltham Forest stay open late to show England’s World Cup opener against Italy on Saturday.

But licensing offer, Matt Brown, said he does not expect a significant rise in disorder during the tournament.

He said: “For the England games we will have extra resources.

“We have been visiting premises and advising them to plan ahead for the games.

“We have advised them not to offer drinks promotions and have extra door staff.

“There are 850 licensed premises in the borough so I can’t say how many will be showing the games.

“I expect the majority to take advantage of the extended licence this weekend.

“Some pub owners think they will be rammed, others think people will stay at home.”

Police will be paying attention to populations of foreign nationals in the borough when the games.

PC Brown added that games are graded depending on risk, with England games and matches between countries with a history of conflict or tension the highest.
