New Walthamstow pre-school praised by inspectors
A nursery founded six months ago has been praised after its first inspection.
Former civil servant Charanjit Chaggar set up The Early Learners Centre pre-school in a community hall at the back of the Trinity United Reform Church (URC) in Orford Road, Walthamstow, in October.
He decided to go it alone after working as an early years consultant with Waltham Forest Council for near on a decade.
The centre, which houses 70 children aged two to five, was visited by Ofsted inspector Claire Meyer on May 2.
She rated assessments of children's learning as good, the care and well-being of children as outstanding and praised the skill set of staff and effectiveness of leadership.
Mr Chaggar employs ten staff to look after the children during the morning, lunch-time and afternoon sessions.
He said: "The hall is a drop-in-centre so when it is not being used during schooling hours as a pre-school, the church uses it for a variety of events and activities."
"I am really pleased with the report and would like to thank the church, my hard-working staff, the parents support and the local authority."
The pre-school was not judged as outstanding as it did not get older children involved in shaping their education enough.
