A memorial service and exhibition will take place next week to commemorate the loss of a First World War submarine.

HMS submarine Sickle was adopted by Epping and Harlow during warship week in 1942.

A service will be held at St John’s Church in St John’s Road, Epping, at 7.45pm on Wednesday on the 70th anniversary of the loss of Sickle which went down with 50 men and women on board.

Epping Town Council, the Epping Forest District Museum, St John's Church and the Royal British Legion are also organising a one-day exhibition to mark the anniversary.

The exhibition of the history of the Sickle will be at Epping Hall and is open to all from 10am until 10pm the same day.
