Waltham Forest council is set enter into a multi-million pound CCTV deal with neighbouring boroughs.

Next week cabinet members are likely to approve a joint contract with Newham, Redbridge and Enfield for the maintenance of the camera network in the borough.

A four-year contract worth £7.4million would be avaialble following a tendering process.

The spend would be divided between the four authorities, with Waltham Forest paying the least at £968,000.

Enfield would pay the most at £3million.

Waltham Forest’s CCTV maintenance contract with CVSS Ltd will expire in March next year.

If the tender process is agreed, the new contract will begin on April 1.

A report by portfolio holder Cllr Liaquat Ali says the joint venture would improve community safety and increase value for money.

The report states: “The tender will allow the London Boroughs of Waltham Forest, Newham, Enfield and Redbridge to provide CCTV reactive and planned maintenance services for Public Space Community Safety and traffic enforcement purposes for a four-year period.

“An in-house option was considered however this is proved to be impractical and the associated costs were prohibitive.”

A decision will made at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
