A woman’s persistent health problems are being caused by the poor condition of her council home, doctors have said.
Ajaib Mussa, 27, has undergone eye surgery for infections, suffered respiratory problems and fungal infections of the skin since moving into a flat managed by Ascham Homes in The Drive, Walthamstow, six years ago.
The walls of the flat are covered in black mould caused by damp, which has spread to curtains, bedding and clothes.
Miss Mussa claims Ascham Homes workers have repeatedly visited the property, but failed to solve the problem.
She said: “I am so tired. Every time they come out and then a few months later the damp is back.
“I have begged them to move me.
“I can’t breathe in here. I can’t have people come here because of the smell I am so ashamed.
“My eyes are constantly itching and my nose.”
Two letters have been sent by doctors to Ascham Homes confirming their belief that Miss Mussa’s health problems are caused by sub-standard living conditions.
Dr I Sinha, of the Wood Street Health Centre, “strongly advised” that the patient is moved, a sentiment echoed by Dr R.P. Dhital, of the same surgery.
Ascham Homes has been contacted for comment.
