A petition calling for a tea hut’s lease not to be put out to tender will be handed to City of London Corporation officials on Friday.

The online document has so far attracted 6,795 signatures in support of keeping the tea hut in High Beech, Epping Forest, under the control of its current manager, Bradley Melton.

The 33-year-old is the fourth generation of his family to run the hut, which has become popular with bikers, walkers and horse riders over the past 84 years.

The man behind the petition and a regular user of the hut, Paul Morris, will take a small delegation to the Guild Hall in the City of London to deliver the petition which will then be considered in July.
