Waltham Forest Council is one step closer to entering a multi-million pound CCTV deal with three neighbouring boroughs.
The council’s cabinet voted to enter into a £7.4m contract with Newham, Enfield and Redbridge on Tuesday over the maintenance of the camera networks.
Benefits are cited by the council as cost effectiveness and improved community safety.
Enfield will take on the lion’s share of the deal with an anticipated spend of £3m as it has more cameras than other boroughs should the deal go through.
Waltham Forest is expected to contribute the least at £968,000.
Similar schemes over CCTV maintenance are in place across the capital.
Waltham Forest’s CCTV maintenance contract with CVSS Ltd will expire in March next year.
