East London and West Essex Guardian Series: Greg Abate Greg Abate

A former member of the Ray Charles Orchestra will entertain jazz fans at an event next month.

Greg Abate, who played lead saxophone for the ensemble for two years, will perform at North Weald Village Hall on July 11.

Nick Dorras, chairman of the village hall, said: “We’re very proud to have Greg playing, he'll be the fist American jazz star we have perform here.

“Hopefully it will attract some new jazz fans to the club.”

Tickets are £8 on the door and tables can be reserved by contacting Mr Dorras on 01992 52 26 21.

A mainstream jazz night is usually held the first Friday of every month and a Dixie Land style jazz club on the third Saturday.
