Waltham Forest College and Council have opened up an 'affordable office' to be shared by start up businesses Waltham Forest Council has opened an ‘affordable office space’ to offer a helping hand to start up businesses in the borough.

In a joint venture with Waltham Forest College the council’s business team is offering people the chance to use their new Business LaunchPad at the Forest Road college.

The space is shared with other entrepreneurial residents looking to start their journey in the business world.

For a full time desk in the office the cost is £200, or £100 for a part-time desk.

Cllr Clare Coghill, cabinet member for economic growth and high streets, said the aim of the scheme was to give people the boost they needed to make their dreams a reality.

She said: “It’s a real helping hand to new businesses in the borough “We appreciate that at first it can be hard to cover your costs, so hopefully this is just one of the things we can do to help create a pathway to success.”

A number of start-ups have already begun using the space.

Canessa Downie, 40, runs Khyal Arts, a social enterprise which promotes art from around the world.

Ms Downie said the benefits of the shared office include the chance to learn from others in a similar position.

“This business space at the vibrant business hub will provide a sturdy foundation for the growth of our organisation,” she added.

“The networking opportunities and access to others in similar positions and with a similar mind-set will create a fertile ground for sharing learning and expertise.

“Finally, the affordability of the space will allow us to benefit from the above without affecting cash flow.”

There are four more spaces left at the Business LaunchPad.
