A school has raised £1,100 for Cancer Research from a celebrity sports contests.

Chigwell School hosted a cricket and netball match featuring former England cricket ace, Mark Ramprakash and television presenter and actor Bradley Walsh donning their whites while former England netball captain, Amanda Newton, took to the court.

Ramprakash and Walsh featured on the ‘visitors’ cricket team while Newton captained the ‘visitors’ netball team.

Chigwell’s home sides were made up of current students and alumni, who “relished the opportunity to play against such prestigious opposition”, despite losing both matches.

Ramprakash certainly seemed to be getting into the spirit of things hitting a six which went so far it smashed a club house window.

Reacting to the newly permanently ventilated building Michael Punt said: “We normally take a very dim view if pupils damage school property but on this occasion I think we can make an exception!”

Also featured at Sunday's event was an auction of cricket memorabilia, led by former England cricket star David ‘Syd’ Lawrence.

The £1,100 raised contributes towards a total of £25,000 raised so far this year by the school, making the day a truly smash-ing success.
