More than 700 people have signed a petition calling for safety to be improved at a major roundabout.

Motorists using Redbridge Lane East in Redbridge currently have to wait up to 20 minutes to exit on to the Redbridge roundabout, as  the current traffic light phasing elsewhere on the roundabout means only one or two cars have the chance to emerge at any one time.

This has led to some inpatient motorists overtaking to get to the front of the queue as quickly as possible.

Now, people who live in the area have set up the petition calling on Redbridge council to urge Transport for London to either install traffic lights at the junction or change the phasing of the existing lights elsewhere on the traffic island.

The petition has reached over 700 signatures but needs to reach 1,200 before the issue can be debated by Redbridge council.

Redbridge Council does not have the power to install traffic lights but it can approach Transport For London about making the change.
