A soul legend has died just weeks before he was due to headline a festival in Walthamstow.

Bobby Womack, 70, was due to appear at Walthamstow Garden Party in Lloyd Park on July 26.

Mr Womack was a world renowned singer and songwriter who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

The cause of death was not announced this weekend but Womack had suffered from cancer and Alzheimer's disease and also battled with drug addiction.

Musicians all over the world including rapper Tyrese, Mariah Carey and Candi Staton have paid tribute to their friend.

Leytonstone's Damon Albarn who worked with the legendary singer Tweeted 'I will see my brother in church'.

Kobo Town, the E17 Jazz Collective and MC Afrikan Boy will play at the free festival this month.

It is not yet known who will take the place of Mr Womack at the event.
