A doctor visited an Epping primary school after one of its pupils won the West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) ‘keeping healthy’ drawing competition.

Coopersale and Theydon Garnon C of E Primary School, in Brickfield Road, Coopersale, were visited by Harlow GP and chair of West Essex CCG, Dr Rob Gerlis, after five-year-old Alessandra entered her drawing of what a healthy diet should look like.

Pupils were given a short lesson on the different parts of the body before some hands on learning which included listening to their heartbeat through a stethoscope and handling replica organs.

Dr Gerlis said: “It’s been really enjoyable spending the morning with local children and seeing their enthusiasm for learning about the body and what they can do to stay healthy.

“As a GP it’s rewarding to work closely with the community and who knows, the next generation of doctors?”
