A date has been announced for the High Court to consider whether or not to grant a third investigation into the death of a woman in hospital in 2002.

Carmel Bloom, 54, who lived in Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green, died during a routine operation at the former Bupa hospital in Roding Lane South, Clayhall, in 2002, which has since been taken over by Spire Healthcare and is now known as the Spire Roding Hospital.

Bernard Bloom, of High Road, Chigwell, has been campaigning for justice for his sister since her death and has now been told the case will have A High Court hearing on July 17.

He said: “Hopefully this will be the light at the end of the tunnel. Being incensed by injustice has given me the resolve to continue.”

The hearing was granted after the attorney general’s office felt there was sufficient new evidence to warrant a fresh inquest.

An initial inquest result giving the cause of death as septicaemia was quashed in 2004.
