Children from Bancroft's School entertained packed houses in a school production of Adrian Mitchell’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass

More than 50 children from years 7, 8, 9 at the school, in High Road, Woodford Green, played several roles and also worked backstage across three shows last week.

The production, which featured singing as well as acting, follows Alice and the white rabbit down the rabbit hole into Wonderland and, then, when she climbs through the mirror into the Looking Glass world.

In both lands she meets the Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, Humpty Dumpty, a talking Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat and Tweedledum and Tweedledee, before finally reaching the eigth square on the symbolic chessboard and becoming Queen herself.

The director and head of drama at Bancroft’s, Eleanor Middleton, said: “Everyone did really well - not just those on stage, but all those pupils working backstage or involved with costume, hair and make-up.”
