To celebrate the Tour de France passing through, a hotel will allow customers to pay for a specially designed French menu using leftover holiday cash.

The County Hotel, in Oakhill, South Woodford, is encouraging visitors to come and sample some continental delicacies and for one day only will allow them to use their leftover holiday cash to cover the cost.

The French festivities will take place on Monday between 10am and 10pm, as the third stage of this year’s Tour de France passes by the hotel.

The County Hotel, which is currently undergoing a £1 million transformation, is encouraging locals to head to the hotel to join in the celebrations and show the cyclists their support.

The hotel’s ‘Le tour de Appétit’ menu includes a range of classic French dishes including croque-monsieur, quiche lorraine and sweet and savoury crêpes.

Sara Chegwidden, general manager of The County Hotel said: “We’re very excited to have the Tour de France pass by our doorstep and to the mark the occasion we will be treating visitors to a very special French menu.

“We’re hoping to inject some French fever into Woodford to celebrate the world-famous event so for one day only we will accept payment in both pounds and euros.

"If anyone has any leftover notes from their summer holidays, this is the perfect opportunity to use them up and treat friends and family to a unique meal out.”

Hopefully a favourable exchange rate will be given for Euro transactions. When the initial group of countries converted from their own currencies to Euros prices went up in real terms (a stealth tax if you will)
