A school in Buckhurst Hill has held an annual community tea following Alice in Wonderland theme the mad hatter’s tea party.

Year 10 students at Braeside School in Buckhurst Hill have spent six months planning and organising the event that caters for over 45 members of the community, including 9 members of the Buckhurst Hill Women’s Institute.

The 17 girls, aged 10-16, arranged entertainment that was performed by fellow students at the school including tap dancers, classical singers and a piece by Braeside’s voice ensemble.

The tea was served on traditional willow pattern china and consisted of homemade sandwiches and a variety of cakes that were donated by the school’s local Waitrose.

Headteacher Gillian Haddon, said: “I came up with the idea for the day about 9 years ago and it became an annual event, we love hosting the tea party at the school.

“The girls have worked really hard at organising the catering, entertainment and sending out invitations.

“It’s all down to girl power really, it’s very exciting.”

The school is set to celebrate its 70th anniversary on July 9.
