A town council has received £4,700 for a project to commemorate the First World War.

Waltham Abbey Town Council was awarded the money today by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exhibition depicting the town during the conflict.

The project will enable people from the town to share photographs, newspaper clippings, documents, letters and memorabilia as well as family tales passed down to help them build a clear picture of what life was really like.

Town Mayor, Ann Mitchell MBE, who suggested the exhibition, said: “We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, it will really allow us to show the history of that time, and also the history of our town”.

The information gathered will be on display for at the town hall in Highbridge Street from August 22 to 25 where everyone can access and contribute information.
