A crackdown is planned on rogue landlords who put tenants lives at risk by renting out unsafe multiple occupancy properties.

Landlords in Redbridge must apply for a license before August 31 or face prosecution, which could result in a £20,000 fine.

Properties with three or more floors, or at least five occupants from two or more families who share facilities, require the license.

Councillor Muhammed Javed, cabinet member for housing said, “Even though there is a shortage of housing in the borough, I believe it’s a right of everyone to live in a safe and secure accommodation."
