A summer fete attended by hundreds of families over the weekend has raised thousands of pounds to help enhance educational learning and fund future school trips.

The annual fair at St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Station Road, Chingford, is the school's biggest fundraiser.

Since Saturday's event, a massive £11,500 has been raised which will enable the pupils to go on various educational trips across the UK and further afield, starting from September.

There was plenty of fun to be had at the fete from traditional games such as the 'stocks' to bouncy castles, dancing, and martial arts and rugby activities, plus auctions, plant sales and cake stalls.

Headteacher Philomena Egan praised the "tireless" effort of the fair's organising committee.

She said: "We want to thank our amazing Summer Fayre Committee who have worked tiredlessly over the past six months and to everyone who attended our annual Summer Fayre on Saturday.

"It was an enormous success and has already raised a massive £11,500.00 with further business sponsorship to follow.

"This is our biggest fundraising event of the year and goes toward enhancing the curriculum for every child who attends by way of providing valuable opportunities that enrich their learning such as visiting theatre groups, workshops, classroom pets and ‘living eggs’."
