Police have released a description of a man being hunted after a teenager was beaten with a rounders bat.

The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury after being repeatedly struck in Courtney Mews, Walthamstow, on June 24.

He was seen walking through the car park and depot area behind St James Street station at around 3pm and then chased a short distance by the attacker before being beaten.

After being knocked to the floor following a blow to the head, the teenager was repeatedly struck on the head before the suspect ran off towards Alpha Business Park through a tunnelled walkway.

Police want to speak to a man described as black, wearing a fishing-style hat, a light blue top and light blue tracksuit bottoms.

An Air Ambulance helicopter landed in the centre of the bus station, but the teenager was taken by road to the Royal London Hospital in a serious condition.

According to garage worker Mark Eve, 48, who witnessed the attack and tended to the victim, various people had congregated at the bus stop where the 212 and 275 buses terminate.

He said witnesses did not intervene, with some people taking pictures and recording the incident on their smartphones.

Mr Eve and another man wrapped a towel around the victim's head and kept him calm as they waited more than 20 minutes for the ambulance crew to arrive.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call Detective Constable Paul Brown of Waltham Forest CID on 07785530686 or 101 quoting CRIS 4912930/14.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
