The ambulance service (LAS) has confirmed it was called to reports of a stabbing where a police cordon is in place.

Police are yet to confirm details of the incident in The Avenue, Highams Park, which is currently closed by The Avenue Food & Wine off licence, near the junction with Castle Road.

A spokeswoman for LAS said two response vehicles and an ambulance was dispatched to Castle Road at 10.47pm last night following reports of someone suffering knife wounds.

She said they were then cancelled and it is possible the victim either made their own way, or was taken, to hospital.

Police have yet to release any details about the incident and officers at the scene are refusing to speak to the Guardian.

Highams Park station cannot currently be accessed from the north side.
