Medical staff and volunteers have beaten off stiff competition to become the faces of a new cancer support video.

Manager Perpetua Egan and cancer specialist Denise Redmond of the Macmillan cancer information and support centre at Whipps Cross Hospital have starred in the video aimed at promoting the be.Macmillan webiste.

The centre based inside the hospital's main entrance building was selected out of more than 100 centres across the UK to feature in the video which is aimed at directing healthcare professionals towards the website for up-to-date information on cancer.

In particular, Ms Egan and Ms Redmond demonstrate how the website works, what it offers and who can benefit from it.

Filmed on-site at the Leytonstone hospital, Ms Egan said she was "delighted" to be involved.

She said: "It’s testament to the centre’s strong reputation with Macmillan, our patients and their families that we were chosen to appear in the video.

"We were delighted to help our colleagues make their website as effective as possible by showing how critical it is to the service we provide."

The Whipps Cross centre is one of three across Barts Health NHS Trust, with additional centres at St Bartholomew’s and Newham hospital.

Their support to cancer patients and families was recently given special recognition after the centre's five volunteers were awarded the Macmillan Deborah Hutton award.

Created in memory of journalist and health campaigner Deborah Hutton who died of lung cancer in 2005, the award celebrates individuals or groups who provide practical support and care to people affected by cancer, beyond the expectation of their role.

The award was collected by volunteer's Clare Golden and Kate Green at the ceremony on June 6.
