A teenager who collapsed outside an off-licence after being stabbed on Wednesday night is now in a stable condition, police have confirmed. 

The 19 year-old was knifed in Highams Park at around 10:40pm and seen wounded outside the Avenue Food and Wine off-licence in The Avenue before being taken to hospital by two men. 

Police have now confirmed the teenager, who was in a critical condition for 24 hours is now stable and remains at an east London hospital. 

Officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) were called to nearby Castle Avenue following reports of a man suffering from stab wounds. 

According to witnesses, the victim was taken to hospital by two men, believed to be the teenager's friends. 

Just after 11am on Wednesday night, police started to tape off a large section of The Avenue, Castle Avenue and Church Avenue.

The cordon's were removed at around 4pm yesterday.

There have been no arrests and officers specialising in gang crime are investigating.
