School pupils came to the rescue of an elderly lady after she fell in the street.
Year seven pupils from Epping St John’s School in Bury Lane, Epping, saw the woman in trouble in High Street and ran to her aid.
Friends Jack Burrows and Louie Russo-Brownlie, both 12, called an ambulance at around 3.15pm and she was treated at the scene.
The boys stayed with the woman until she was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital an hour later.
The 81-year-old was treated for minor injuries.
Epping St John’s headteacher, George Yerosimou, said: “We’re extremely proud of them.
“They have shown such presence of mind and maturity for boys of their age.”
The school has been contacted by onlookers who saw the boy’s actions and wanted to congratulate them.
The boys will be recognised for their efforts by the school in an assembly later this month.
