A campaign to keep a tea hut's manager in his job has received support from an MP.

Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes has confirmed he will be lending his support to the campaign which is urging the City of London Corporation (CLC) not to put the licence of the tea hut, in High Beach, Epping Forest, out for tender.

An online petition, which was delivered by a delegation to the CLC three weeks ago, received over 8,000 signatures from the bikers, walkers, horse riders and local visitors it has become popular with over the past 84 years.

Mr Burrowes said: “I have visited the hut on many occasions with my family and appreciate its accessibility and value to the community. I am concerned to hear about the risk of losing this facility.

“I will be speaking to Eleanor Laing about my constituents concerns about the loss of the tea hut and to register my support.”

The City of London Corporation will meet on Friday to discuss the tender.

A date to confirm the decision is yet to be released.
