Local area and planning committees are set to be officially abolished at a council meeting tomorrow.

Redbridge’s Labour council hopes to save around £840,000 annually from centralising the process.

Local area committees, where members of the public air their views on local issues, have been operating in the borough since 2000 and an alternative is yet been offered.

The proposals also mean planning applications will initially be assessed by planning officers.

The meeting will be at Redbridge Town Hall, Ilford, at 7.15pm.
