Two new curates will join Leyton churches this month.

Hilda Gilbert and Nicholas Algeo will be clergy members who assist the church leader at St Mary’s and Christ Church respectively.

Former nurse Mrs Gilbert will join the Church Road place of worship.

After growing up in Zimbabwe, she came to the UK in the late 1970s.

Mrs Gilbert was a specialist nurse in general practice and is currently working as a nurse practitioner in Tower Hamlets, London.

After becoming a regular worshipper at St Mary’s Walthamstow Mrs Gilbert became a pastoral care co-ordinator, a member of the prayer ministry team, involved in teaching, leading in worship and preaching.

She has three grown-up children and five grandchildren.

Nick Algeo will join Christ Church in Francis Road, Leyton.

Mr Algeo studied Economics at Nottingham University and then worked as a Corporate Manager for the Royal Bank of Scotland.

In 2009 he left his job with RBS to work as a Pastoral Assistant at St Peter and St Paul, Dagenham.

He will also marry his partner Harriet at the end of this month.

Mr Algeo trained for ordination for three years.
