The mother of a British teenager stabbed to death on his 19th birthday while on holiday in Malia will join a gathering outside the Greek embassy in London 12 months after his death.

Tyrell Matthews-Burton, from Leyton, was killed the day before he was due to fly home after his trip to Greece with friends.

Mr Matthews-Burton was stabbed during what has been described as a mass brawl outside a bar in the resort, which is popular with UK teenagers.

Sharon Matthews, Tyrell’s mother, has spoken out about his death, calling it "brutal’ and "senseless".

She told the BBC that she is desperate to find out exactly what happened to her son.

Mrs Matthews also has a daughter, who was five at the time.

She told reporters that one of the hardest moments in the last year has been telling her daughter Savanna that she would not see her brother "Ty-Ty" again.

Mr Matthews-Burton had recently left college and was working in a shop at the time of his death.

Friends Anisha Jackson and Kalm Paul-Christian described him as a "positive influence" who dreamed of teaching children.

Police made several arrests and charged Myles Litchmore-Dunbar, also 19 and from London, with murder.

He awaits trial in Greece but denies the charge.
