A team of three high school pupils has won a national karting competition on the second attempt.

The Debden Park High School Super Green team of Ben Green, 16, Oliver Longshaw, 16 and Jaiden Fenton, 15, came first in the British Schools Karting Competition on Saturday.

The students beat 28 teams to the title on a rain-soaked track in Whilton Mill, Northamptonshire.

Oliver said: “We were relieved that we did it and happy that all the hard work paid off.

“We all knew we could do it so we put pressure on ourselves to win it.”

The trio finished ninth in last year’s final so were delighted with the improvement.

Ben said: “It’s a brilliant achievement and we’re really proud to have won it in our second year.”

Each driver was presented with a trophy and Jaiden said his would be put “in the living room where everyone will see it”.

Graham Tongate who organises the karting teams at the school said: “It’s an outstanding achievement from where the boys started 22 months ago.

“It’s all down to their hard work and their parents’ support.

“It shows how if you work hard you can achieve anything you want.”

Oliver and Ben will continue racing after they leave the school next year in the Club 100 and Ginetta G40 series respectively.
