A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found unconscious in the City of London Cemetery.

The 54-year-old was discovered yesterday at 2.17pm with an injury to his neck at the site in North Boundary Road, near the Aldersbrook boundary with Manor Park in Newham, close to Wanstead Flats.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

Police believe they know the identity of the man but await formal identification.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Chris Jones of Homicide and Serious Crime Command.
