The father of a 21-year-old cancer victim has organised a fundraising day in her memory.

Bob Goacher will host 'Amy Day' on August 29 in memory of his daughter, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer on October 2012.

It will take place at Wanstead Golf Club in Overton Drive, Wanstead.

A total of 260 people have already signed up to the day of golf, teeing off at 1pm, followed by a raffle and auction, with prizes including a Leyton Orient season ticket and a hog roast and disco in the evening from 7pm.

Former pupil of Nightingale Primary School and Wanstead High School, Amy Goacher was studying at Bournemouth University when she was diagnosed in 2010.

Since Amy died, her father, mother Tina and 20-year-old sister Megan have raised around £13,000 and they aim to add around £8,000 to that total.

The money will go towards a ovarian cancer research project under Professor Iain McNeish, the consultant who treated Amy throughout her illness.

Mr Goacher, 53, of Charnwood Drive, South Woodford, said: “It’s a fun day to raise money and a chance for lots of people who love Amy to get together and remember, our friends, family and neighbours have been an amazing support.

“It’s what Amy would want, she wouldn’t want us to mope. Even when she was ill she’d worry about other people, I think she would be really proud of what we’re doing.

"The cancer she had was extremely rare to get at her age as it is usually women over 50 who get it, so we couldn't believe it when we heard the news.

"We want to turn Amy Day into an annual event, 260 people have already signed up and while I am not surprised as Amy was a really well-liked girl, I didn't expect it to be this big."
