A group of young people have been threatened with legal action by Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) following reports they are terrorising residents and businesses in a shopping area.
Gary Waller, Safer, Greener and Transport portfolio holder, will make a statement regarding ongoing anti-social behaviour in Debden to a meeting of full council next Tuesday.
An investigation is underway concerning reported crime and anti-social behaviour in the area of the shops and flats at Debden Broadway.
Around ten young people have been identified who are reported to be blighting the lives of those living in the flats above shop units by climbing onto their balconies.
According to Councillor Waller’s report, shopkeepers are also being abused by the teenagers.
The report says: “The council’s investigator working with Essex Police and local public services identified over 10 youths involved in this activity.
“Working with EFDC legal services, a strategy has been implemented whereby banning letters are being sent to those individuals identified threatening court action for civil trespasses if their behaviour continues.
“The investigation is ongoing and is being co-ordinated with local businesses, residents police and Debden Housing Office.”
The young people are also accused of exploiting the fact that there is no fixed CCTV in the area.
